About West Lethbridge Weather
This is a Personal Weather Station (PWS) operated by myself, Gary Wheeler here on the west side of Lethbridge, Alberta. The station broadcasts current weather 24/7 barring any unforeseen circumstances! The station is a Davis Vantage Pro 2 with the UV sensor.
Our 5 Day Forecast is generated hourly and updated 18 mins past the hour. Why 18 mins? Our station waits for the ‘on the hour’ data runs to be completed and posted for download. Then the station here runs the weather simulator program (WXSIM Website) and posts the forecast.
This station participates in the Volunteer Weather Watcher Program from Environment Canada
Weather watchers provide an invaluable service not only to meteorologists, but also to their communities and the general public. Their keen eyes and enthusiasm enable the weather office to more accurately detect and evaluate local severe weather events, and issue weather watches and warnings that can help people protect their lives and property.
Volunteer observers contribute a large portion of the severe weather reports received by Environment Canada. Meteorologists also contact volunteers to confirm storms that forecasters have detected using radar and other special equipment.
This station participates in the Canadian Weather Amateur Radio Network CANWARN involves an active group of people that spot and report on severe weather. It was originally formed as a network of weather-trained ham radio operators across Ontario, and has since spread to Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec, and into Atlantic Canada. Gary is a licensed Advanced Amateur (HAM) Radio operator in Lethbridge, AB.
