Our local or microclimate makes for some interesting phenomon when it comes to weather.
How weather is measured also differs. Aeronautical wind speed is measured 10M or 33' above ground. For agricultural purposes the measurements are taken 1.5M or 5' above ground.
Bodies of water, shelterbelts and trees and especially in the West Lethbridge area, the coulees which surround us in a horseshoe shape. This dramatically influences the winds received on the west side of the city vs the north or south sides of Lethbridge.
Our local envrioment of buildings, homes, roadways, etc. produce the
urban heat island effect and alter wind and weather patterns.
